Extreme Sentencing is a driving force behind Mass Incarceration.

In order to end the crisis of mass incarceration, we must support the release of incarcerated people from our prisons.

Extreme Sentencing comes in three forms:

  • Life With Parole (though parole is often denied)

  • Life Without the Possibility of Parole (LWOP)

  • “Virtual” Life Sentence (e.g., 120 years)

According to 2016 data issued by The Sentencing Project, there are a total of 3,569 people serving Life With Parole, LWOP, or Virtual Life sentences in New England.
